How It Works
- Set the tempo with the BPM slider or type a value directly
- Choose your time signature: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 or 6/8
- Press Start — the metronome begins ticking immediately
- Use Tap Tempo to match BPM to a song: tap at least twice in rhythm
- The first beat of each bar is accented with a higher pitch
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this metronome accurate?
Yes. It uses the Web Audio API's AudioContext scheduler, which schedules audio events with sample-accurate precision — far more reliable than setInterval or requestAnimationFrame alone.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, it works on any modern browser on iOS and Android. Some mobile browsers may require a tap interaction before audio can start — just press the Start button.
What is Tap Tempo?
Tap Tempo lets you find the BPM of a song by tapping the button in rhythm. After 2 taps, the tool calculates the average interval between taps and updates the BPM automatically.
What does the accented beat mean?
The first beat of each bar plays at a higher pitch to help you keep track of where you are within the bar — standard in all physical and digital metronomes.
