Frequently Asked Questions
What is a public IP address?
A public IP address identifies your internet connection to the outside world. It's assigned by your ISP and is visible to websites you visit. It can change over time (dynamic IP) or remain fixed (static IP).
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 uses a 4-number format (e.g. 192.168.1.1), while IPv6 uses a longer alphanumeric format (e.g. 2001:db8::1). IPv6 is the newer standard with a much larger address space. Many connections still use IPv4.
Is my data saved?
No. Detection is done via a call to ipapi.co, but we never save or log any data on our server. Your IP is visible only to you.
Can I hide my IP?
Yes, you can use a VPN or the Tor browser to mask your real IP. In that case, this tool will show the VPN server's IP or the Tor exit node's IP.
